Hangin with Chuck

It was a sad NFL weekend, which saw another group of stars get lost for the season. One such player, is former Wisconsin Badger, Joe Thomas. His consecutive snap streak was unbelievable, ending at 10,363. Here's to hoping for a speedy recovery.  It isn't very easy to find offensive linemen autos, so glad I stumbled across this one when I did. No crazy or fun story about how I picked this card up, but really stoked to have it in my collection.  Thank you for reading.

The Loot Locker  just celebrated their second anniversary in September. Hopefully they will have many more anniversaries to follow. To help celebrate I ordered three lockers this month, one each of baseball, basketball and football. I have previously shown my baseball  locker, and will post about my basketball later, but this is what I found in my football locker. For those of you unfamiliar with the Loot Locker, you receive some hobby packs, supplies and some candy. Below are the best cards found in my packs. I was recently given a $6 gift card to utilize at a local retailer. There wasn't anything I was in need of so decided to put it towards a pack of cards. My pack choices there were 2017 Prestige Football or 2017 Donruss Football. As you probably deduced from the title of the blog posting, I opted for the Donruss variety. I hadn't up to this point opened either variety, so just grabbed one off the rack. Nothing spectacular in the packs, and nothing for the PC, but it cost me $1 so no complaints from me. So after the last blaster I purchased, and blogged  about  I decided to give it another shot. I figured the first box had to be an anomaly so I should give it another shot. I am quite happy I did. I got a couple of inserts again: And my relic: So far Gurley is having one hell of a season under his new head coach. While I could nitpick and wish I had hit an autograph, or a serial numbered relic, I am very happy about hitting this Gurley. As always, thank you for reading.

As mentioned in my  Panini WTF  post, I recently became a father. To celebrate, my good friend Johnny O (@JohnnyOeleven) gifted me two packs of Panini 2017 Father's Day cards. I knew that the packs contained two cards each, but had absolutely zero expectations on what would be in them. To my great surprise I hit two relic cards, one per pack. Isaiah Ford suffered a knee injury and is not expected to play this season, but the other Deshaun Watson is off to a great start for the Houston Texans. Overall, I'm ecstatic with the gift and cards.  Thank you for reading.

Ever since I was a small child I've enjoyed collecting cards. I could say I was given a choice if I wanted to collect them or not, but I was definitely steered in that direction from my dad. He had collected cards as a young boy, and while pursuing the completion of the sets he grew up collecting, took my brother and I to different card shows looking for the missing pieces to his collection. In the early years I definitely didn't have much direction with what I would collect. I'd regularly spend my allowance on random packs, or loose singles of players I liked. Locally I had a couple of options that I can remember. Early in my collecting life there was Dave Koch Sports in the mall, and then later, a small shop in a strip mall down the block from my house. I don't know how my collection started to steer towards Mike Piazza but I'm glad it did. He was arguably the greatest hitting catcher in MLB history.
