Father's Day 2017

Image
As mentioned in my  Panini WTF  post, I recently became a father. To celebrate, my good friend Johnny O (@JohnnyOeleven) gifted me two packs of Panini 2017 Father's Day cards. I knew that the packs contained two cards each, but had absolutely zero expectations on what would be in them. To my great surprise I hit two relic cards, one per pack. Isaiah Ford suffered a knee injury and is not expected to play this season, but the other Deshaun Watson is off to a great start for the Houston Texans. Overall, I'm ecstatic with the gift and cards.  Thank you for reading.

Ever since I was a small child I've enjoyed collecting cards. I could say I was given a choice if I wanted to collect them or not, but I was definitely steered in that direction from my dad. He had collected cards as a young boy, and while pursuing the completion of the sets he grew up collecting, took my brother and I to different card shows looking for the missing pieces to his collection. In the early years I definitely didn't have much direction with what I would collect. I'd regularly spend my allowance on random packs, or loose singles of players I liked. Locally I had a couple of options that I can remember. Early in my collecting life there was Dave Koch Sports in the mall, and then later, a small shop in a strip mall down the block from my house. I don't know how my collection started to steer towards Mike Piazza but I'm glad it did. He was arguably the greatest hitting catcher in MLB history. He had a streak of 10 consecutive All-Star Game appearances, w...

I was fully planning on making my first post be about my Mike Piazza PC, but will instead do a blaster box review. This past Friday, my wife and I welcomed our baby girl into our lives.  With the birth of child number one, I decided to go buy a few retail marked down blasters to celebrate. I had previously broken quite a bit of Contenders 2015 football, so was happy to see this box as an option. The guarantee of a rookie relic was intriguing with what seems to be a solid rookie class up to this point. No fantastic Bears options for the PC, but none the less fun to break. I was able to hit a couple of inserts, as well as hit some serial numbered ink. Unfortunately, D'Joun Smith is no longer in the league. Then my relic, and the reason for the title of my post. My relic doesn't have a relic in the card. You can see it a little better in picture number 2 below. How does Panini let this get through quality control? It isn't of a star so I'm not sure it is even ...

Welcome

Welcome to my blog. I am an avid sports fan who likes to collect sports cards and memorabilia. My teams are the Chicago Bears, Wisconsin Badgers, Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Bucks, Liverpool FC Reds, Miami Hurricanes (football), and North Carolina Tar Heels (basketball). I also am a huge Mike Piazza fan. I'm not really sure where this blog will take me, but I wanted an outlet to share my passion of collecting and life in general. I plan on showing boxes I rip, parts of my PC, and then things I'm willing to sell or trade with fellow collectors.
